Condensation on bubblewrap
« on: January 14, 2012, 11:47 »
Since I have installed bubblewrap in my small lean-to poly carbonate greenhouse, it seems to attract moisture between the polycarbonate and the bubblewrap. Also, after this night's frost it's dripping water. There are no leaks or anything so it must be the plastic.

Anyone else finding this a problem ?

I get condensation on the inside of my greenhouse and the minitunnel at the plot. It is due to the temperature difference between the inside and outside of the greenhouse causing water in the air to condense out on the warmer surface.

The best way of dealing with this is to ventilate well during the day, and then it will dry.

Yes, I have opened the window but as it's close to the house in a corner not much air gets inside.

I have been doing this day after day and it's still damp inside. Besides, the water hangs on the bubblewrap instead of sliding down.

So far I have opened it every day (except frosty) and the moisture still hangs on. It's very strange.

Have you got a window or vent in addition to the door? The cold weather we've had lately has seemed to dry out most things here in Manc (well, today it's raining) so I'd expect a greenhouse to dry out at least a bit.

Then again, if the wet is on the outside of the bubblewrap, it's not a big problem. Just shows it's working as an insulator...

You can get a solar electric vent that operates whenever the sun shines. This helps to get a small amount of air-flow in situations like you describe.

It has an opening roof window vent.

It might help. It might not. Could be worth a try to dry it out a bit quicker.
