Title: got my rotovators today and a bonus
Post by: welsh boyo on April 05, 2008, 18:07
due to a little mishap  wth my mates son crashing his dads jeep last week(luckly no one was hurt)he was a bit preocuppied so i didnt get them untill today
also he had a genny that wasnt working so asked me if i wanted it as well.
they have been stored in a container for over a year and he no longer wanted them as well as the fact they werent working..

took me 5 mins to fix the norlett. the pullcord had snapped. so i just retied it all be it a bit shorter, checked the spark (which seemed a bit weak) fitted a new plug  give it a few pulls and nothing..
drained the old gogo juice from the tank, put some fresh n a few pulls later away it goes   Runs like a good un..

the honda is a different story
its missing the plug cap, belt gaurds and most of the eletric leads have been disconnected. it doesnt want to turn over but that could be due to the massive impact it seems to have had to the fly wheel cover.
I havnt had time to play with this yet so I`ll keep you posted..

Now the genny he told me that he tried to start it one day and it was having none of it, in the end he buggered up the pull cord( it was fully out with no recoil
so he just bought a new one.
i removed the pullcord cover and hey presto it recoiled, i refitted it and it started 1st pull
it is sweet as a nut one very quiet running machine..
so in all a very very happy boyo here in wales.
0ne working genny and rotovator that cost nowt and took in total about 15mins to fix both..with another rotovator to be looked at..

had a quick look at the honda today.
my 1st fears of a siezed engine have been put to rest. The flywheel was jammed by the casing (it was folded around it)removed it and gave a quick bash with a hammer, engine now turns over on pullcord but the flywheel is still rubbing the cover all be it very slightly
It must have had a hell of a whallop as the tank has been repaired with fibreglass around the fuel tap as well.
i managed to reconnect the wiring,
But i have no spark..(saying that it doesnt help that there is no cap on the pluglead so i just stuck the plug in the end of the lead just to check)

So a few questions.
What model is it or is the clue in BBFrankies post.
Does anyone have a spare flywheel cover or know where i could locate one.
Can i get any old plug lead cap (ie of a motorbike etc etc) or do i need to get the whole lead assembly.

Frankie might be able to tell you, I'm more a Briggs and stratton sorta guy.
Have you tryed getting in touch with your local honda sales centre, they might be able to tell you how much for the casing. are you sure you can't beat it into shape a bit more? got to be cheaper in the long run, and as for the plug cap, any one would do. some of the hondas need a "long reach" plug cap, but thats usually on the overhead valve models, yours doesn't look like one of them. :D

hi gwiz
Just had another looksie at her and she`s deffo not a ohv and i think your right if i spend a bit more time i could beat the cover a bit better,
one other thing i forgot is i cant seem to find any sort of throttle controll on it.which seems a bit strange :?: found the choke and the throttle linkage on the carb but there no where for a cable to connect .nor is there even a cable or controll handle on it anywhere.
and  i cant seem to get the gears to shift either buts that unimportant untill i get her to fire up..

I think im gonna have some fun with this machine. But it wont beat me,if man made it then I can fix it (I hope)

looks like a throttle lever up there on the handles, or am I seeing things?
It should have one, can you take of the air filter assembly and get a picture? they would, I think, normally fix under there someplace, well having said that, it's quite a while since I saw the one our company owns.
like I said before, bbf knows a lot more about honda rotovators than I do. He luuurrvves 'em. :D

that last picture is the one that gives it away.
the bright coppery looking object isn't supposed to be there. The cable comes in from the left, goes under the carburettor bowl, and then onto the hand lever on the right of the carb bowl.

Hi Graham
I knew you were gonna say that.I was thinking along the same lines when i took the pic,but couldn`t see what the cable would do if attached there. As i moved it with my hand and it didnt seem to have any affect on the throttle valve linkage shown in the 1st pic.I had basiclly convinced myself it was replacing a lost linkage/rod.

I think its timeto start from scratch and give it a good clean 1st then get hold of some specs/diagrams so i can see whats missing.

thanks for your help.

Hello everyone!
I have the same Norlett rotovator as those on the picture. Can you tell me which are the dimensions of the drive belts on it?
Thank you!

Hi, I am back  the engine is a G150 on a F400 tiller
I think it is thd later k2 version at 3.8hp
Covers ect are not easy to find for the engine, the belt cover impossible.  But that wont stop it being used Engine parts, points ect can be obtained from abroad but if I am right yours will have electronic ignition.
