I'm growing potatoes in the ground and also in some containers, I've just been given a much bigger container is it possible to move the potatoes from one container to another or will it kill them off, the haulms are getting quite big now

If it doesn't kill them it will certainly set them back. I'd just leave them where they are and use the larger container for something else.

Agreed, they are not very well secure to the plant, and the gravity could tear them or rip them in movement.
