changing starter cord on JCB strimmer
« on: June 17, 2010, 09:24 »
I have just changed the starter cord on the JCB Strimmer.  It is not straightforward and needs a lot of dismantling, but easily possible if you are mechanically minded.  The main obstacle is retaining the drive shaft whilst removing the sleeve nut because otherwise it is not possible to remove the yellow plastic cover behind which the starter mechanism lies.  .   It has to be done by removing the blanking plug from the other end of the main bearings and locking the connecting rod and crankshaft web.
JVC are of no assistance and no longer stock any spares for JCB.
Hope this is of help to someone.
