The new, the old and the unknown today

A new iris I bought called Burnt Ember.  I'm not sure if I like it or not   OH says it is out of character with the garden and is just brown and purple  ::)

Next an old favourite.  A cottage garden pink doing its stuff by the back door and looking lovely.

Then one that has seeded in from next door.  Neither of us planted it and we don't know what it is.  It is a very strong stemmed plant so is useful for propping other stuff up in our over stuffed gardens   We both just pull it out when it gets too much.

I chucked a load of flower bulbs into a spare space last year and this one has comeback again. It's not food so I have no idea what it is, but the bees like it. It can stay and I'll grow around it.

P1P, surely that beautiful plant is a Lupin.    It certainly is a good-looker.  I would love one, but the pests love them even more up here.   Mrs B

I’ve been pondering that one but I don’t know if the flowers are right

Close up of flower. They are tiny in real life, but unexpectedly stunning in close up.

It might be a 'Skullcap', News?

The only reason why I think this, is because we have a load of 'Wood Forget-me-nots' growing, we wanted to look them up, and your plant is on the next page in our DK book!

What a lovely flower!

Gold star for you Mr G and go to the top of the class  :D

It is a Somerset Skullcap.  I'll let next door know when I see her as she has been trying to ID it for ages  :)

It's a beautiful flower, News, I wish we had something like that, but the 'Wood Forget-me-nots' have appeared from nowhere!

This year, we're sowing some 'Honesty', and so far have about forty plants, which will take some shifting, I can tell you...

As we're not driving anywhere much, there's a huge thistle by the passenger door of the car, where Mrs Growster shows a leg and steps in, and I rather like it, as the stem is about two inches thick, (the thistle, not Mrs Growster's leg), as it's about five ft tall, and is just making yellow flowers!

Sometimes those wild plants tell a big story...

I wish we had something like that

That's easy enough solved.  I'll try and get some seeds  :)  It can't be too tricky to get going as it appears all over the shop in my garden.  It is not invasive as such, but certainly an enthusiastic self seeder

My neighbour had a single Honesty plant in a pot last year right next to the fence with us.  We have a low wire fence at the front and plants freely move between the 2 gardens.  I now have a whole line of them along the strip next to the drive.  With a 40 strong force, you could take over Kent

Blowsy beautiful peonies with the mad firework flower heads of Christopii alliums.

Garden pink with added very determined bumblebee

Finally blue flowered garlic chives. Usually they are white but I found these years ago and they are a bit different  :)

Orchid:  Maxillaria tenuifolia (narrow-leaved Maxillaria, or coconut orchid)

Flowers are about 3 - 4 cm across.  Smells like a day at the beach, with a scent exactly like coconut tanning oil. I've had this one about 5 years now.  Grows indoors when cold, outdoors when warm or hot.  Not sure from the preview whether the photo is attached or not(?)
