hi we tried growing sweet corn last year it grew fine all until a few weeks before we went to pick it. It seemed to have been eaten by something. what do you think it could be, a bird or mice maybe? Does anyone have any advice on how we could stop this happening this year?

ok first when ya get it growing nice n thick stems  put some grease on a bandage around the stem 4 - 6 inch from the ground  this stops frigin earwigs for a start . second hang cds ( loads of em ) among them using fishing line . and also hang some bean tins with glass marbles in , not stones cos they wont roll around clattering like mibs do , third put some them kiddies glitter ballons up with helium in em ..... fritens the dodo outa squirrels  lmao   thats u sorted

Hell no - I love squirrels.  I'll point out that we only get the nice red ones, not these nasty grey imports from America.

Im going to have to proof read these threads, my six year old has been sitting on my lap reading about the sweetcorn, but instead she see's talk of squirrels, BBQ's, I cannot express the grief the child has felt, as we have a visitor called sid and he is our neighbourhood squirrel, she's gonna ave nightmares about him on a skewer!!!

its true matey .in the woods they are fine in the attic  they are terrible ,grey squireels kill little red ones and they damage trees  reds dont . as far as i am concerned no point in making things rosy for kids they need to learn things are not always good  and right in life ., but then i hadnt thought  that a 6 yr old would be interested in the site in the first place . as with the swearing ban  its good to consider that kids may be looking in  :)
