Hi
Has anyone tried or had success striking/growing the curry leaf plant used in a lot of asian cooking from fresh packets bought from an asian supermarket..? would be much more cost effective if i could get some going from cuttings.

I've not tried to grow it; it's not the same thing as what we commonly call the curry plant though.

You'll have to move to the tropics then.Apparently it's a tender, tropical shrub up to 20ft in hight but it says in my herb bible that it is propogated from seed and cuttings. No instruction on takeing the cuttings though .Good luck.

Semi ripe cutting in well drained compost, covered in a poly bag, with bottom heat, basically.
The issue would lie in actually obtaining a fresh semi-ripe cutting from the greengrocer, as mainly they are already part dessicated on arrival
This doesnlt affect their cooking properties, but as they are almost dead, makes them very hard to root

all true with sunshine.
I've failed miserablly trying from cuttings (from supermarket).
the seeds way doesnt work because they only germinate when they are picked from tree and plonked straightaway (I am not joking) and their germination rate is less than 10%. they are the most sulking shrub I've ever seen but when they grow to a certain number of years they are really good then. :)

Thanks...I think ill wait until the weather warms up somewhat and then try getting some cuttings going in the polytunnel then bring them/it into the house for the winter...otherwise ill have to bite the bullet and order a plant online..not nearly as much fun that way though!!
