3 year wait and I've got one :)
« on: February 27, 2011, 21:53 »
Hooray.....

After a 3 year wait I have finally been offered an allotment at a local site just a couple of
miles away. Think I've fallen lucky as it was cultivated until the end of last year - unfortunately the old fella before me has shuffled off to the allotment in the sky. :(

I've inherited 2 huts, 3 greenhouses, a poly tunnel, compost heap full to the top and hundreds of pots, containers and tools. Got a bit of rubbish to shift but I think that's nothing compared to the plus points.

So, what to do first? what should I be sowing now?

Any ideas folks?  ;)

Chit your spuds, sow some Broad beans, peas, Early Brassica's Leeks & Tomato's to name a few for starters

Geordie,

Glad to hear someone in my neck of the woods is having some joy. Just wondering which council and allotment site you have been waiting for?

Best wishes.

Well Done on your allotment G.

I would  make yourself known down there, because at our Lottie if someone leaves then the vultures circle and take what they will until the new owner takes hold.

If you like Broad Beans then get some in now, also Toms and Chile Peppers can be sown indoors for transplanting into your G/House in about 6 weeks time.

How big is your plot is it a full plot? If so you are lucky because most society's now start people of with a half. I had to wait 2 years for a plot and then another three years for a full plot.

99% Organic and 1% Slug Pellets.

Allotment holder since 27th May 2007.

http://www.allotment-garden.org/growing_information.php

is a page on the main website with lots of useful info.  Have a look at the monthly guides - although adjust them a bit as you're quite far north.

Also articles about clearing and planning a plot.

Don't be too impatient with seed-sowing.  Most seeds won't thank you for starting them too early!
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Welcome Geordie,
Sounds like a great plot. I would deffinatly get some spuds chitting, then take Flitwickones advice, sit back have a can and think about what you want to do with your plot.
