sand and clay soil

Does anyone know if play sand can be used on clay soil or is it too fine?Small person has left the lid,repeatedly,off the sandpit so it has lots of addad leaves etc.so I just wondered if I could add it too my carrot- bed- to- be?

I use the sand pit content on the veg bed like that year after year, as it gets re-freshed, good. 8)

Used every year for mixing with compost for hardwood cuttings, or sprinkling around sweet pea seeds.
