Making your own pots
« on: March 05, 2009, 09:48 »
not sure if im posting in the right bit....

hubby and i need some pots to put some of our seedlings into so we watch a vid on the internet last night about how to make your own from newspaper, looks easy etc so we are going to give it a go.

only thing is dont they get really soggy when you water?

has anyone else tried it?

ooh fab - thanks :D

we watched someone do it with a glass, they rolled it the same as the aerosol can but then tucked the 'loose' half inside the glass (to start making the base), they then pulled it off the glass and pushed the flaps back down (making a base), they they used the glass to weigh the base down a bit more and hey presto!

so far ive seen instructions to do with a toilet roll, wine bottle, glass and now an aerosol can!

i can see from the thread that the watering doesnt seem to be too much of an issue, i just thought they might nd up a bit too mushy...

i did see somewhere though it said if yyou find they dont break down very quickly aftter planting put them on the compost heap instead, and to make sure when planting that you tear the side slightly to let the roots out - i suspect everyone will have different experiences of this though  :)

I wrap some cling film around the outside of the tray and newspaper tubes to hold it all together until I'm ready to plant out.
