Plastic sheet as a mulch

Hello folks been a while.
Need some advice about black plastic sheeting as a mulch with the intention of planting some veg into it .What veg does best and what are the pitfalls of using this method.I ask as I have already been given a large roll so would like to try it thanks .

Black plastic sheeting is not ideal because it doesn't allow air or water through it.  This means that the soil gets sour over a period of time.  Ideally the woven fabric membrane should be used rather than plastic.

But as you do have the plastic, don't leave it down permanently.  You will get slugs underneath it but there's not much you can do about that.

Most veg will grow OK - cut a cross into the plastic, plant the plant through it.  I'd personally avoid spuds because they quite like to ramble out in different directions rather than one predictable stem.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
