Is there a height after which the slugs do not attack a global artichoke plant?

Reporting on my Artichoke plants.

I have nearly 15 plants on my allotment now (Heights from 8'' to 18'' tall).I am protecting them with Sharp sand against slugs etc.
I have about 7 plants about 12-18 '' tall in pots and another 15 plants (about 6'' tall)in smaller pots.

I was thinking about growing 5 plants in large plots and transfer the rest, when they are about 12 '' tall ,to the allotment.I can put these pots in a shed with plastic roofing(so no problem with sunlight)(not a greenhouse).

How will the plants on the allotment do through the winter?

Should I continue to grow the plants currently in the smaller pots also in the shed ?

Thanks

They also survived extremely unexpected and harsh March snowstorms and freezing winds without cover!

...however, if you know you're prone to frosts - which we're not particularly here - some fleece or straw to protect the crown overwinter might be prudent.
