Potatoes
« on: March 15, 2009, 00:16 »
Hi,novice vegetable gardener question coming up.
I am still kicking myself for doing this as i have read it up a thousand times but in the exitement cocked it up.
I have planted my earlies and second earlies and while out admiring my handywork this evening something was not quite right. My flash to bang time was not what it used to be and i have just sussed what i have done wrong( i put it down to getting older).I have planted my rows a foot apart instead of the two stated. How, heaven knows.
What if any will be the implications of this?
Any help will be greatly received but please dont tell me to start again  :(
Thanks
Andy

You'll be fine Andy, don't worry ;)
Taters will always find the room they need in open soil. And since Earlies are dug as smaller new potatoes, they'll thrive  :)
Welcome, by the way!

I would carefully take one row out before they start growing and replant otherwise you will not have enough soil to earth them up.

If they're only a foot apart, you can earth up both lots together, so long as there's plenty of room either side to take soil from.
