Alternative spud Yukon Gold
« on: March 19, 2010, 08:20 »
T&M in their wisdom have sent me Yukon Gold to replace the Golden Wonder that I ordered a long time ago and they no longer have in stock.

As well as deciding not to order from T&M again, I'd like to know......

Has anyone grown these?

Sorry no.  They've done the same to a friend of mine but what's odd is that apart from the name they are not remotely similar.

Yukon Gold is a second early and Golden Wonder is a main crop.

Have a look at the Taterbase:  http://www.dundrynurseries.co.uk/plist.asp

I've grown Yukon Gold and they are a great all round potato, good for roasting, boiling and make very good jacket potatoes. They produce a good crop of good size potatoes. You've not had a bad deal there Peapod.

Yukon Golds are very common here and a favourite all round potato. they cost more because they produce a maximum of 12-15 spuds per plant and are a late crop, hence the higher cost. But they have a lovely taste and are my #1 favourite we grow lots.

It seems T&M have "upgraded" you with their alternative option, might have messed up your plans, but guess you still have the option to return as they are "not as ordered".

Please give them a go, it's a variety on my To Do list, and I would love to know how they turn out.

Forgot to mention that the Yukon's interior is a golden colour.
