Yep prepared for Autumn planting a variety called Swift.. In general onions will get through winter if you pick the right variety and sow at the right time. I use sets cos I'm lazy.

You will see Japanese onions advertised in autumn they work as well good overwinter stock.

The only thing with overwintered onions is they mature early and not always so good for keeping so grow just enough and have some maincrop to store through the winter

Much the same applies to shallots but they do keep better also you could do two lots Autumn for early use and Spring for main crop
