:D Took a chance and stuck some earlies in, just a few International Kidney.
Yesterday afternoon some were just breaking the surface :tongue2: No sign of parsnip germination though  And shallots are really slow :?

Spuds are very early - watch the frosts.
Parsnips are notoriously slow - stick with it.
Likewise the shallots - only just put mine in.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Don't know where you're located, but snow & frosts are predicted here in the Midlands for the weekend. Better watch those spuds!

Can I ask advice on which potatoes (if I should be planting potatoes now??) to get... just got allotment last week, so trying to get a few small beds planted up to start with.

Thomson & Morgan do a beginner's collection of potatoes- was thinking of ordering that and bunging it in without chitting by mid-April. Or is that a dumb idea...? Doesn't seem to me that April is too late for planting, but I haven't been chitting them...

Hoping to get some onions in too... any other suggestions?

Littlelisa

what you could do is see what varieties the T&M starter pack includes then go down to your local garden centre and buy the same from there, this will save you money and you won’t have to wait for delivery (2-3 weeks). You only need to chit earlies apparently.

Will the lush green onion shoots be affected by the biting frost?  :?

Naw Onions are pretty tough We've had some heavy frost over winter and only lost one or two plants to frost. I've got onions  shallots and garlic planted in November all growing well

No they should be fine, although birds like to pull them up then decide they don't want to eat them    so use some netting or scarer.

My spuds are up to, pretty hopeful there won't be any frosts down here though (fingers crossed)
