50 years and counting...
« on: February 20, 2021, 15:51 »
Fifty years ago, I summoned up the courage to ask my (future) wife out!

It was a party near Hastings, and all my friends were there, and they didn't realise that a young, silly, 'normal'  Growster had left his rugby game in Bexhill, wondered what to do next, went to 'The New Inn' in Winchelsea, chatted with Don, the Landlord, got in the Fiat 500, and drove off to destiny...

So, with permission from a gorgeous (future) mother in Law, history was made! I brought the loveliest lady on the planet to the throng, and here we are still!

So there it is!

As Del Boy would say 'He who dares wins'!...

Congratulations, we've been together for nearly 48 years and married for almost 47.  I think we're getting the hang of it

Aaaw, thank you everyone!

Our Golden Wanniv is a couple of years away yet, so this is a sort of dress rehearsal...

I suppose that today (Monday), I'd have been in the office telling everyone who could be bothered to listen! I still have my diary for that year, but have chucked nearly all the other diaries, mainly work anyway, and all the desk diaries went years ago in a ceremonial bonfire! Just before they went, I read through a few dates, and just couldn't remember some of the names, so they were really a pointless waste of space!

However, I'm well into the task of scanning all the pre-digital photographs we have ever taken, using an iPad and a lot of bad language! The trouble with all those old albums, is that they take up about 10ft of shelf-space, and while we'll never throw any photographs away, they can be filed in proper storage boxes for safe-keeping, but we'll have the whole lot on PC/SD cards to hand out to family!

It's taking ages, but another fifty years should see it through...

A few years ago I started going through our photos adding details of names and places,  a time consuming job to say the least.  Grandson has since used some on his family tree homework for school.

Congratulations to you and Mrs. Growster!

I heard today that this is international Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week (ASAW). No, not aromatic, that comes from working to hard on a hot day.

Clearly after so many years, romance is alive and well for you and Mrs. Growster, hopefully for many, many more years to come!

I like your last sentence, Gracie's, because there was an article somewhere, saying that lots of today's pics are just stared at for a few moments, then deleted, which means they're lost for good!

My dear cousin and her husband did the whole Ancestry thing a few years ago, and connected so many long-lost reations, but the pictures were just lovely (post 1850, that is)! I'd just like to think that all the pics we have of our families can survive for future generations, otherwise they'll never know their own history...

Mind you, my uncle once told me that he'd met a man during WW2, who told him that we had an ancestor who had been Mayor of Manchester! Uncle Jack hardly believed him of course! This was pre-internet, and only a week or so ago, I checked online, and found that he was right!

Many heartfelt wishes from GG to you both and, more importantly, what are you going to buy her for all the years she's looked after you?  ;)
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

It was a deep pink Cyclamen, GG, and a card, because as we're not shopping together (covids), I escaped to our local GC and got my good chum to recommend something nice!

I will escape again today as well, as around now, a few pots of Tete-a-tete look fabulous dotted around the house!
