I have noticed that on my allotment site there appear to be snails with coloured shells rather than in the garden the bog standard shell. Does anyone know the difference and if they have particular likes or dislikes, apart from anything I sow which they seem to love eating.

Banded snails? Are those the ones that are protected because they are rare?  

I think I read somewhere (perhaps a survey on-line) that due to their rarity the little snails with white and coloured stripes are protected?

Not sure about the different types, but if you want to stop snails and slugs eating your veg, steep rhubarb leaves in a barrel of water for about a week. It makes a really disgusting smelling liquid, but works a treat!

trikidiki - the big ones are the edible ones, but the small ones are just as edible too, and taste far better in my opinion. Just feed them on something non-poisonous for a week to make absolutely sure - potato works pretty well - and you can 'see' when it's worked because the poo changes colour. Then starve them for a couple of days until they are 'clean'. Boil them with what ever flavourings take your fancy, and eat them like winkles whilst still hot.

Hit the globe icon (bottom line, 2nd from left) and get <square bracket>url][/url<square bracket>  (sorry cant use the proper [] or it just does the command!);  put =and the link after the first url so it looks like <square bracket>url=http://www.blahblah], then put the neat stuff you want to be underlined between the ][ and thats it.

Dunno but the local thrush on my plot likes the big banded yellow ones best when snail hunting. The others get left if the banded ones are available.
