Too late to add chilli's?
« on: October 07, 2011, 10:25 »
Hi everyone
Just finishing a pan of tomato chutney which I was hoping might have a bit of a bite to it as I added some of these: http://www.verylazy.com/chopped-ingredients/2009/8/12/very-lazy-red-chillies-115g.html
to the mix at the start. However it's almost ready to pot - still got maybe half hour of cooking to go and I have just tasted it. Its very sweet (I did think the sugar content in the recipe was a bit high) and no bite at all.
Will it develop as it matures or could I add some more chillis to it at this late stage?

My family all hoping for a spicy one this time  :(

Thanks Plott..... I left it too late to ask question really and had to pot it up. It tastes lovely so not too disappointed. I had already used some smoked paprika so it does have a lovely flavour. Maybe more chilli would have been overkill.
I will just have to be braver in next batch but its hard to know how much to use to get it hot but not throat bustingly hot and everyone has different tastes so what suits one might be uneatable to another.
