Hi all, checked the greenhouse today as usual and found 2 trays of peas (most of which were germinating yesterday) with what looks like a whitish fur on some of the ungerminated ones.

A quick google makes me think its damping off disease as they werent getting direct sun, they're a bit damp as they are inside a wilkinsons plastic 4 tier greenhouse which is inside my glass house ie their own microclimate and there's been plenty of condensation, however there's not much air movement as id had the zip closed.

Ive removed all the white i can and gently aerated the rest and have now opened the zippers to allow more airflow and placed these two trays where they'll get direct sun

3 other seed trays in there are fine though.

any thoughts?

IMO just a mouldy seed. Damping off the seedlings go thin at soil level and rot without visible fungus.
Dig the bad one out and bin it.

I had a bag of multi purpose compost which produced a white mould like this.  It did not seem to affect my seedlings and disappeared when I started taking the lids off the propagator.

I  have now changed to a different brand of compost.

Hmmm could be mouldy seed now you mention it as I remember when we bought them from the allotment shop we were sold them half price as they were described as old but still good.

:-/ shan't be doing that again! Nearly tempted to dump the lot .............

There's no point in dumping the lot - the vast majority are clearly germinating OK and should be fine.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

The mould would probably been in the compost or air, it just took advantage of a dead seed.
Even good seed that germinates can get mould/ fungus on the split seed case with no ill effect on the growing seedling.
If you pre sprout the seed on wet tissue then you can sort it before you put them into cells.
