A colleague brought me a huge pack of coriander seed from the ethnic supermarket for 75p.  Then loads of gloomy people round the office were saying  it wouldn't grow because "they" would have treated it.  I can't think what "they" could tretit with that would stop it growing but make it edible still.  It kind of reminds me of the time I gave a Saturday girl some lovely fresh laid eggs and she said her mum wouldn't let her eat them cos it wasn't safe unless they had come from a shop.  Or my MiL forever saying seeds saved from pumpkin or whatever won't grow because they are F1 hybrids.  Of course there's only one way to find out!  And I'm sure someone on here said they had grown coriander this way.

Next weekend (9th)  is going to be my day for going through the seed stash and sowing everything that says "March"!!

I love coriander and regularly grow from the big bags of cooking seeds available to buy     

Our local Trashco has a World Food section that I raid for seeds and also beans and lentils for sprouting.  Much cheaper than buying seed packets

You've nothing to lose by giving them a go, and judging by what NewShoot said, you'll probably prove your colleagues wrong 

Coriander happens to be one of many herbs I just can't seem to grow

Someone on here mentioned rolling them under a brick to quicken germination...

PS.  Bought myself a huge bag from the Asian shop the other day and will be trying the brick method soon...

Not sure about using those sold as food but it's worth a go. If not just buy a pack for seed and save seed each year, it's one of those you will only need to buy the once if your careful!
