Taking the mutts out today, noticed a lot of people who'd had white goods for Christmas were putting out polystyrene packaging for the binmen.  If you are due a frost this can be used as extra protection for cold frames etc, especially with a few milk bottes of warm water placed inside, should see any vulnerable plants through the colder nights.

PS.  A good chance they had bubble wrap too - look around and ask friends and colleagues.

I built a coldframe many years ago with expanded ploystyrene insulation sandwiched between two timber skins for the sides, but pests found a way in to the cosy/safe inner part, from where they launched attacks on my vunerable seedlings.
