The the starter cord on my petrol strimmer will only pull out a couple of inches and not turn the engine over. Any ideas please

either the recoil start is faulty, (perhaps the rope has jumped off of the pulley) or there is something nasty going on. From what you describe it could even be a seized engine or clutch.
