Steam cleaning

Steam cleaning

While I was working away on the new nest boxes I wondered if anyone had any thoughts on the advantages/disadvantages of using a steam cleaner to clean out their hen house?

Hi - Supposed to be good for getting rid of red mite and will give it a try this summer, but as yet have no experience of it.

Steam cleaning will not eradicate red mite on its own as there are always some hiding in places you cannot reach, chemical treatment and/or diatom is a must.

As a chemical free way of cleaning and sterilising coops and equipment it works but i dislike the poultry poop sauna that the cleaner (me) gets. :tongue2:

I used it in the summer and it did clean the coop wonderfully but it did not keep the red mite away. I now use it as part of my over all red mite ban treatment.
