Got a 6 month old hen who is making some really odd wheezy noises. We have given her Baytril for the last 2 days and isolated her from the flock. Have also wormed her and the rest with Flubenvet. She is eating and drinking well with no smell from her beak. She is very bright-eyed and is acting normally.......but this noise is really peculiar :? :? Neither of us have heard anything like it before. Have videoed her but as she does'nt make the noise to order, you may have to wait for a few seconds. Be very grateful for any help. Ta!! ;)

How bizarre.
Can't think of anything. Could it have damaged it's (equivalent of) vocal chords ?
We have an amberlink that makes a nasal honking noise rather than rosey.

It's really wierd :? :? :? like a cross between a sneeze and a hiccough..most odd :? :?

I've no idea how they make their normal range of noises. I presume they have some sort of larynxy type thing. Sounds more like a kitten (you sure it isn't one ? ).

It's a chicken!!!!.....who is now sitting on my back as I bent over the pc :?  She's never made this noise before though.

Did it suddenly change from chicken noise to kitten noise ?
Just wondered if there could be something stuck in the wrong place or she may have swallowed something that did a bit of damage on the way down.

Is she a special breed, couldn't see her very well on the video?

Not actually 100% sure what she is.....it's a toss-up between a brown leghorn or a cream legbar. Was'nt actually videoing her....just want to get the sound :)

Hiccups??
for 2 days??

I have quite a few hens that do that and it seems to be worse if their feed is dusty or I have just refilled the feeder. You might try giving her a slightly wet mash and see if she inproves.

I had a couple of girls that made a similar sound. As I am a novice and just ignored it (it seemed quite funny at the time) they all went down with Mycoplasma a few days later. It turned out they were sneezing! Not saying that you have the same but after I got mine put on Baytril it cleared it up within the week. So if it is something similar then at least the Baytril should help. Now if I hear the tiniest little snuffle I put citricidal in their water for a week and they seem to be ok.
Hope this helps.

Have to go with Babe's suggestion. Have you tried giving her some money to stop. Works with carole singers. :?

My legbars make a funny noise if you disturb them in the hen house - like a guinea pig. But it comes in "phrases" not just erratically like on your video. Sorry.
