We'll be burning some conifer on the veg bed, possibly with a bit of bliss from the chickens and rabbits over the next couple of weekends.  How long, after hoeing in, should the area rest before planting

The pot ash from the fire will be quite strong for plants straight away, I believe
I put some fresh potash from the fire at home, on my tomatoes and it burnt them
However, your soil will be sterilised now

If spread over your veg patch and raked in with a little rain, its probably going to be about 2 months before you plant in there,you want have a problem even in 4 weeks time you would be ok.In the days of open fires it was used a lot without any trouble

Garlic and plums seem to like bonfire ash    I grew garlic where I'd had my bonfire and it grew really well

if you can collect the ash and have any fruit trees or plants they love it

Just had my annual bonfire on the plot.   Jerusalem artichoke stalks, Sunflower stalks, pear tree trimmings, some mouldy old hay and off-cuts from pallets after making a triple compost bin assembly.

Started off with shredded bank statements.   Got it going and sat back and watched the fire, watched the birds and listened to my music machine,  (proggy rock preferred).

Manuvered the burning from time to time untill it was all consumed, then spread the ashes over the bed and raked soil into them to ensure they were extingwished.

A lovely day.  .  .  .  .  .Got my eye on a pile of washed out horse pooh in the next field to spread over the plot then dig it in.       Cheers,     Tony.
