Title: Will my dahlias have survived the weather?
Post by: missmoneypenny on March 21, 2018, 22:25
I have a few plants on the site and so far they nearly all come back after the winter. I have mulched well with horse manure and straw. But with this years snow, might they have died? I am thinking of bringing some on indoors as an insurance policy ( but then I may end up with too many....).
Any opinions?
I’m in London.

It does depend on just how deep the soil froze and your mulches should have helped. Here, when digging I still found unfrosted potatoes, I'd missed at harvest - so I'm hoping the dahlias will be ok as well.
Where you are should be a bit warmer than here so fingers crossed  ::)

Thanks mumofstig, I might just play dahlia roulette and see what comes up. I can just about afford to lose a couple of plants and still have interesting bunches throughout the summer.

the snow on top will have helped insulate as well as the mulch. fingers crossed.
