Title: new Plot

Hello

Is there any one that can help I am ploding through a new plot, here in Northamptonshire  it is completly empty and has not been worked for a considerable time the soil is very fine,  but looking at oter plots and talking to other plot hoders they say the soil is good

Now comes the crunch, towards  the bottom of the plot it is thick with nettles!!!!!!

I have access to an industrial strimmer so I am thinking of taking the tops of and then digging the roots out?

Sound slike your pretty lucky getting a empty plit with good soil, as for the nettles, you should be fine to do what ou say your going to with the strimmer. You could even save the nettles and make a liquid feed out of them by leaving in water ;)

As Jamie says, yes you can take the tops off and either put them in water or on the compost heap.  But I wouldn't compost the roots, they go everywhere.

take the full nettle plants, stuff them into onion bag and place in water butt , great free fertiliser next year , MIND THE SMELL WHEN YOU STIR IT UP IN SPRING,

As for the nettles id cut them down and chuck them in the compost, or make a home made (N) feed
