Title: new!
Post by: Ali-oops on August 30, 2017, 08:04
Hi, chicken-keepers. I've just got my first policy hens. So exciting! I'm in Unst, one of the Shetland islands. It's a beautiful sunny day here, and my four are out in their run, scratching away. I have 2 Black Rock, and 2 Marans. My biggest challenges will be to keep them safe in very strong winds, and making sure everything, including the shed, is tied down firmly to withstand the VERY strong winds we get here in the winter. Not  to mention the potential threat from otters. And mites. And already one is a bully. And they don't eat the layers pellets! Any advice will be very, very welcome. 🐔

Hi Ali-oops and welcome  :D

There will be a bit of bullying behaviour as they sort out the pecking order.  Don't worry, it will calm down.  If they are not used to layers pellets, it can take time for them to try them.  You can soak them in water and make a mash.  They might be more used to that.  Just make it little and often as is sours quickly  :)
