Cauliflower Problem (photo attached)
« on: August 05, 2020, 16:15 »
I have attached a photo of my Cauliflower, I planted 20 of these plants and all have gone like this, I have asked but have not been given an answer as to why they grew like this. Was just told Bin them and better luck next time. I would hazard a guess it is to do with the weather we have had. Advice greatly accepted Thank You, Chris ---- Think they were called Snow Ball

They have bolted.  Yes it may well be the weather but cauliflower is a notoriously tricky vegetable to get right.
If they get any check to their growth they often do this.  For best results it is a good idea to pot them on before they get pot bound and plant them out as soon as they are big enough.

AnneB, I started them off in the Greenhouse, potted on into Plant pots and put in the Garden when around 4 inch tall. So we can agree Water Problems, must remember closer to the Butts. Thank you.

I've also found it useful to provide extra shading when we have these bouts of extreme heat.  I cover all my brassicas with scaffold netting and keep the odd pieces for placing over the top to give more shade to caulis and broccoli when needed.  Once the weather cools down sufficiently I take them off again.   I don't bother with the cabbages as they seem to manage ok as long as they're kept well watered.
