I've been give a few of these today and the colours are lovely! My question is................are they prone to being enjoyed by birds and slugs as the edible ones are?

Reasonably organic but totally realistic

you can till they are ready then spray with a systemic bug spray to stop nasties eating them,  leave 3 weeks before eating those that are edible . i am growing some giant walking stick ones this next year .. update later in spring .you can follow the whole thing .sowing to harvesting and making the stick right here on channel allotment-garden.org

Well I don't think these are edible which is why I didn't think they would come under attack from beasties but I didn't want to have to net them, as you say Gobs, would spoil their ornamental value.

Same as what I've heard, never tried, mind.

I do not grow them, but years back we rented a place, where there were sme in the garden, they seemed to do OK, against all neglect from ur part.  But then you are less critical and wrried if yu do nt want t eat them, I suppose. :D  :D
(Sorry, the o key is rubbish)

I am going to grow the walking stick ones next year too, but am puzzled over how to protect them from the pigeons. Did think of throwing a fishing net over each one.
Anyone got any suggestions?

I only grew them on season, BG and I did not protect as it was only for the stick competitin, lots of bugs, but plants so huge, they seem to shrug of most things thrown at them and pigeons were not a problem

If you want to eat you prob fleece them as per Munty, but if you plant out strong seedlings, you can think like kale, not too many problems in that one year anyway.
