Title: Mesh size.

Hi allotmenteers :D, what is the best all round mesh size for garden compost, I have just made a small mesh size one for seed sowing and I am ready to batch up my Wickes compost with sharp sand/vermiculite/growmore and Grow sure farmyard manure, cheers Dave  ps my neighbour has a cement mixer who hoo

Do you mean to make a sieve for the compost?

I used to put my compost through the Atco shredder, it came out soft and fluffy and seedlings loved it !

@ldi have a sieve on their special buy's this week with three mesh sizes. £4.99

Sorry, I should have said what sieve size mesh is best for all round garden work, I have mesh/wood/screws/metal brackets etc, cheers Dave

I think it depends what you're going to use the compost for Dave. I use a 6mm sieve for the compost mix for my long carrots and parsnips. On the other hand, if it's just for general use I'll use a 10mm mesh size, or none at all for use as a soil improver.
By the way, good result having the lend of a mixer!!
