Haven't used it round the raspberries (we use rotted wood chips for that bed) but have used Strulch to good effect round strawberries, brassicas and beans. Depending on watering and rain it keeps the slugs away for about four months and forms an effective mulch until the following season.

I’ve seen it used on beds of shrubs and seems to work really well to keep weeds from germinating. Forms a stable mat after rain, so it doesn’t blow away. Not really thought about using it on fruit, but have just ordered a couple of 100l bags off eBay for £22.50 delivered. Will try it around strawbs and for a foot either side of the raspberries where I don’t hoe for fear of cutting canes and shallow roots.
