Factors involving Potatoes and Slug damage
« on: September 07, 2011, 16:10 »
OK, last year I grew Cara and harvested them early September, minimal slug damage.  This year I grew Rooster at the other end of the plot, harvesting now (early September) and over the half the crop are slug-ridden.

So what affects slug damage?
- weather
- variety
- location

I can't do anything about the weather, location - well I do need to practice crop rotation so can't do much about that either so are some varieties more prone to slug damage than others?

Any other ideas?

Thanks
GreenOwl.

Thanks Mum, had already decided I'm not growing Rooster again, too floury for me :)

Got a list of susceptible varieties?  (said in hope rather than expectation)

when the catalogues come out they usually give some indication of slug resistant varieties.
Earlies and seconds often avoid them simply because they're not in the ground as long.

JBA's page lists a few................

notice that Cara is on that list  ;)
