Ben and Bessie with feathered friends!
« on: November 01, 2012, 13:50 »
Ben is doing one of his favourite jobs ..... Bessie is sort of loitering ( hopefully not with intent )  :D

She has arrived home with a very full tummy lately - not chicken, happily! As there has been a mink around and rabbit victims have been found we think that she has been gorging on the mink leftovers. Typical very greedy lab!

Lovely! I see some of the chickens are doing their favourite thing (dustbathing) too. Does Ben just watch over the chickens or does he herd at all?

He's very bossy and won't settle until they're all where he wants them, so is constantly rounding them up.

We're sure he can count too  on many occasions we have insisted there is one missing, to be met with a withering look and refusal to go searching. The idiot humans haven't realised she is in the pen or the nest box.  ::)

When it's time for them to go in he goes into sheepdog mode.

I could do with Ben to round up my hens an especially the 2 turkey poults.  They still insist on having their Mum Dotty in the shed overnight with them.  I have tried to ween them off her as I am afraid they might jump off the perch and squash her but they just call and call until she is in with them.  They are not the most coordinated birds.   ::)
