Pepper problem
« on: August 15, 2010, 22:31 »
I harvested my first peppers today, and when I cut them in some of them I found some caterpillars, and lots of frass. I hadn't noticed the small holes they seem to have done presumably when getting in. I'm soooo annoyed - it took ages to  grow them!
Did anybody have the same problem, and if so what can I do to avoid it in the future  (other than covering them, which would be a pain)? The peppers are grown outside.

I've had this problem before.  I believe it is caused by a moth laying it's eggs when the flower first starts to turn to a fruit, similar to the pea moth problem.  I'm not sure what the answer is, other than perhaps moth traps or netting the plants.  Sorry, I'm not much use!
