Not very clear I'm afraid but these plastic contraptions clip into their nostrils and prevent them looking directly forward. As I say, since they've been fitted I've started getting eggs from the egg eating pens.

Makes them look intelligent - secretary birds

Let us know if it's a permanent cure.  How long will you need to keep them on the offenders ?

Just until I get some eggs off them to incubate. There's a good chance that when they have stopped laying, when they restart, they might be out of the habit. Fingers crossed. :D

Sold my original flock and bought 16 Barred Rock hens and a Barred Rock rooster to go along with them. I am now getting a dozen of eggs each day. I'm very pleased with my new flock!

So I guess all we need to do now is look out for a post from a new forum member ... something along the lines of 'Please help! I bought 15 chickens and they all eat their own eggs ...'

How are those specs coming along Bodger - any joy?
Nobody said this was going to be easy ... but some days are better than others!

The bloke who was ordring them for me had his order returned because of ' insufficient funds' I've ordered them myself now.

Actually, I sold them all to a person who eats them. I informed them of the problem. I don't sale egg eaters to others to experience the problem. I have more respect than that.

Some years ago we had 5 hens, they one day started to eat the eggs, they never stoped, we have this year started to keep hens, this time my husband built the nest boxes with a slope ,the egg rolls back, and gently drops down a small step, out of reach of the hens, we retrive the eggs from the hinged lid at the back of the nest box, we have two of these nest boxes, which is fine for our 6 hens, they are big enough for them to go two at a time, i am not able to put any bedding in the boxes as it stops the egg from rolling away, but the hens dont seem to mind this, also im hoping because the eggs disapear, this may stop them going broody.

Oh just remembered, you can get either front or rear rollaway!!!!  I wanted the rear roll out, so i could just open a door at the back and get the eggs out, but Brian wanted the front rollouts. Then after I got them he said maybe the rear rollouts would have been better?????   Grrrrrrrrr

If you don't mind me asking? Why would you prefer the rear rollout? I'm needing some new nest boxes and was thinking of front rollout as it suits my house better.

Got any more pics please?

Cheers

 :)
Best Regards,

spud
