how many peas to a pot?
« on: April 24, 2012, 21:43 »
i need to put out some peas but my growing trough is not ready yet (needs painted and lined if it ever stops raining) so i will need to put them into some 42 litre trugs.
how many could i put in?
ive not grown peas before so was going to make  wigwam style support with bamboo canes, would this be suitable?

the peas are jumbo.
these 2 take all my time, whatever is left the veggies get, poor hubby is at the end of the queue.

What's the diameter of the trug / pot?

NB I assume you've put drainage holes in the trug?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

In my experience peas won't climb up canes/wigwam by themselves, you will need to keep tying them in or put some netting round

trug is about 18'' diam and i have drilled 5, 8mm ish drainage holes.

In my experience peas won't climb up canes/wigwam by themselves, you will need to keep tying them in or put some netting round

ok will tie some twine round the canes or will wrap a bit of netting round them.

any other advice?

Thin twine wound round the canes at intervals works well for a friend of mine, and avoids the possibility of not being able to pick any peas which grow inside the wigwam.  :)

You may have to consider some extra support for the wigwam if you grow tall varieties unless it is in a very sheltered spot.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older
