nice recipie for dates
« on: October 22, 2013, 19:48 »
found this recipie in a mag and have tried it and thought it would use up all those left over dates after Christmas.

date crumble slice .
makes 20
melted butter to grease an 11x7 in tin
1o1/2  oz pitted dates , chopped
9fld oz  water
7oz butter , softened
71/4oz brown sugar
91/4 oz plain flour
1/2 tsp bicarb of soda
51/2 oz oats

oven at 180 deg  gas 4
set oven and grease tin and put in baking parchment
1.   put dates in water and simmer over a low heat 15 mins , set to one side and cool .
2.   use mixer and cream butter and sugar , sift flour and bicarb  add to the creamed mix and then the oats mix well with a wooden spoon .
3.   spoon half the crumble mix into the tin and press evenly .cover with the date mix , (mine was abit lumpy so I blitzed it a bit .) spoon the remaning crumble on the top and press down lightly to cover the date mix .
4.   bake 30  40  mins until cooked and golden , transfef to a wire rack and allow to cool completely , cout into squares , can be frozen .
Woman cannot live by bread alone , she must have cake , biscuits cheese and the occasional glass of wine .🍷

Chrissie - I used to make those date squares many years ago - had forgotten how nice they are.  :)

Yes, I love those too. Never seem to have any dates though, might have to go and buy some now.   :)

I suppose you could use dried figs or even dried apricots , that might be nice , will report back
