What kind of floor?
« on: December 21, 2011, 18:44 »
My chicken hut is a brick building approx 8' x 10'.
It just has an earth floor at the minute and I was going to lay a concrete one(No pun intended).
Would this be a good type of floor to have,or what else would you chicken Gurus recommend ?

I haven't got the chickens yet but should be acquiring them early in the new year.
It's better to burn out than to fade away !!     ;)

Sounds good. We've had a concrete floor in a similar sized purpose built block without problems. Easy to treat to keep out mites etc. Put a damp proof membrane under the concrete. A slight slope to the door will help cleaning.
You don't say how many chooks you'll have. We've now 10 but up to 16 and found that a wooden pull-apart-to-service coop inside the building works well. No need to weatherproof and cleaning easy. Just take the bits outside, hose and reapply the DE. HTH

I would say that a concerete floors are the best easy to clean an steralise, i just put a layer of woodshavings down, my outside run has blockpathing i use chipped bark for the chuks to dig and scratch iv never had to poo pick because i just wash the woodchip with the hose and just keep topping it up. they have a soil patch to dig in but seem to prefure the wood chip
