Impatient fig grower
« on: July 29, 2022, 21:24 »
Hi, really pleased that established fig developed lots of fruit this year. Reasonable size and have been feeding with comfry tea every week or so but the fruit are still hard and not dropped??? According to guides they should be ripening by now, anyone else in the West Midlands having the same issue?
Is there anything I can do to promote them ripening or do I just have to wait.......

I’m just north of you and my first fig is just about ripe now, although the rest appear to still be green and hard. As long as they’re a decent size already, they should ripen.

Thanks Nobbie, I did find something about putting olive oil on the end of the fruit but seemed to be only once they had started to ripen and mine haven't yet and they did say it impacted on the flavour so guess I'll just have to wait!!!!!

Last year I bought a new planter for my old fig tree & tadaa I picked 4 ripe figs one day last week & another 1 a few days later, it’s the most I’ve ever had in a year. Even when I repotted it into the old planter I was never successful. I have been assiduous in watering it this year though.
