Watering can roses
« on: April 19, 2020, 15:52 »
I must have had hundreds and they ALL dribble and soak my feet to some degree. Any recommendations for one that doesn't?

Only the ones soldered or braised onto the spout of the watering can.

Cheers,   Tony. :)

The two problems I've encountered are:

1) The rose isn't a tight enough fit on the spout so falls off - fixed by wrapping a few turns of PTFE tape round the end of the spout to make a tighter fit.

2) The sprinkler disc dribbles round the edges where it fits into its housing - clean and dry it, then seal all the way round with silicone sealant (mastic frame sealant would probably work if you don't have any silicone sealant.)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

It’s option two that’s the problem, even with metal ones. I was hoping you get ones with the sealing bit already done!

I’ll get some sealant, if I can find any. Thank you.

Can I just jump in & ask how to clean the metal sealed roses from my Hawes can bought specifically for watering seedlings? I was about to create a thread but seemed a bit silly with this one ongoing?
I’ve soaked both roses & given a good scrub from the outside with a brush but still after a first tip up & a nice spray they seem to block up & dribble out in places

Good morning Wellington,  if you need to buy a 'cylinder' of sealant and you don't use it all, cover the open end with clingfilm and pop ity in the freezer.  It will last for months.  Or if you have a hot glue gun...(I've never known such a wasteful tool)!

Cheers,  Tony.

A bottle brush (preferably one with a 'bent end') should do the trick.

I usually find that if a rose runs slow or not at all particularly if starts doing that after being tipped up after running OK previously then scale formed in the watering can and running down to rose is to blame. I usually give the watering can a good shake round with water and a handful of gravel then wash out with hosepipe jet.. If it doesn't run at all them blame a snail in the spout!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hardly ever use sealant, but I do have a glue gun. I shall try that first, thank you.
