Post by: gowing238 on August 18, 2010, 15:18
Hello all. Just wondering how you tell when your sweetcorn is ready. The cobs are there with tassles but i dont want to open one without being sure its ready!!

Cheers!!

Trick is to have a peek without doing too much damage if it isn't ready!

If you are careful you can make a small tear about half way down the sheath covering the cob and stick a fingernail in one of the kernels.

If the juice is clear and watery it isn't ready, if it's like slightly thick milk it's ready, if it's really thick and milky (or no juice at all) it's time to buy some chickens!  :nowink:

On mine the silks change to brown and that is an indication that its getting ready.
