Grit
« on: October 07, 2011, 18:33 »
Just got some chickens last Saturday. Feeding them on layers pellets with some greens as a treat. Keep reading in some books about grit. Do we need to give them grit or are the layers pellets OK

Thanks

Hello Sprouts,
as I understand it you should have grit and oystershell, in separate pots, available to the hens at all times.

Grit is very important to hens, especially if they are unable to find their own!  Oyster shell is a good source of calcium.
