We brought Jethro and his 4 wives home on Monday afternoon, and he cockled for the first time this morning, and at lunchtime, and this evening. After months of being without a cockerel, its strange to have that wonderful noise echoing around the house!
Its a more high pitched clear cockle than Monty's was so it will take a bit of getting used to. Monty though was a very special bird in more ways than one, I just hope that Jethro will be able to half fill the void that our dear old friend left.
(Anyone who watches NCIS will know where we got the name for our boy from!)

Id love a cockerel, he'd have to be a Rhode Island Red, and called Rocky though...
something for the future, only just got my first birds, not sure if the neighbours would tolerate a cockerel at 4 in the morning!!
(is it cockerel or cockerel?? I thought is was the latter, but my spell check thinks otherwise)

I know some people find the crow annoying, but I find it rather nice too! ;)

I love the sound of crowing but unfortunately my neighbours don't :(

I prefer to hear a cockerel crowing than a dog barking any day of the week!

I'll second that NM :D

We have a gamekeeper nearby that breeds all his chickens, pheasants et all at the back of where I live. He has a cockerel too - close enough to hear the lovely sound of him crowing and far away enough to keep the volume down.
