Ophelia Amelia Orpington, one of our hens has started to limp today, getting worse as the day has gone on. Have looked at her foot, no obvious signs of injury etc. Doesn't seem swollen either.

Any ideas please she as really dragging her foot and hopping by the end of the day.

Have they got any high perches or platforms she could have jumped down from and pulled something ?

Could be a soft tissue injury. Presume you've checked for anything sharp in her foot ?

Many more suggestions to come I'm sure

For heavy breeds I like to use a roost very close to the floor so they can almost step down off of it to avoid injury.

Also you might check the pads of her feet on the bottoms very good for and scabbed over places or sores that look like they are filled with infection.

As for the roosts themselves I use a 2x4 laid flat so they don't lock their toes around a sharp edge. This can cause pressure points and cause Bumblefoot too.

Thanks, I shall check her feet out and try and lower the roosts and hope she sorts her self out
