introducing new hens
« on: January 14, 2009, 20:47 »
Hi all, I am thinking about getting 6 more chucks, I already have 10 hybrids, how do I go about intergrating them I have a large coop which will house at least 20 hens,  I was thinking if I partition the coop so they can see each other will they get used to each other,( have a run both sides of the coop)  how long will it take before they can be placed together?

never introduced as many as that to a resident group before but suspect it might be easier than introducing a single or a pair. If they can meet in the open a few times on ground that is new to both it might help. If not, introduce them after dark  by putting the new ones on roosts in the hen house so they wake up together. Be on hand in the morning in case there is real trouble, however there is bound to be a few squabbles as they work out the new pecking order.
All these moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
