Just said goodbye!
« on: February 13, 2008, 14:45 »
Feeling sad  :(  :( and guilty as I've just said goodbye to my little silkie cockerel. Having two boys running with my 8 girls was just too much and the girls were starting to hide indoors! Even though Cheekie has gone to a friend and I know he will be cared for and their only cockerel, it was sad to see him go.

Buster, hopefully will calm down as he won't have competition...except of course from Tut the peacock..but maybe a little less testosterone will settle them all down!

I hate getting rid of any of my birds, does it get easier, I wonder, as the years go by? I hope it does as I'd love more chicks another year, but I'll just end up wanting to keep them all again!

    Think a cup of tea might help.....?

I suggest a large glass of red wine!  Sounds like you've sorted him a lovely home - which isn't always the case for cockerels.

You've done well to re-home him Judi.  They are so often re-homed in the c**king p*t

Personally i'd go for the bottle.

I rehomed my Silkie cockerel last summer.  I still miss him as he was my favourite.  Funny how they get to you :)

It was sad to say goodbye  :(  but the girls have been much happier today and Buster can now just amble up...do the business and relax! Everything seems less frenetic and it was so sweet to watch them all go to bed tonight...They all went into one henhouse with Buster so he collected up the 3 that lived with Cheekie and took them back to their house!   Then I waited for him to go back to his favourite girls but he stayed to settle Cheekie's girls instead! It was sooo sweet to see him take them back!

From the girls perspective, it's good that Cheekie has a new hareem and, at least i can hear how he's doing!

Thank you all for your kind words,

Judi

Cheekie's News!
Had to share my news this morning!     Just received an e mail from the family that took Cheekie...their son changed his name to Roger but...said he wouldn't come when he called him so went back to Cheekie because he comes to that name!!!! He is besotted with Cheekie and spends lots of time with him...his mum is waiting for Cheekie to move indoors next! Amongst his new hareem, Cheekie has a hen that is showing him the ropes and stays with him all the time, trotting round as they explore the garden together!

I'm so thrilled and glad for Cheekie...sounds like cockerel heaven!!

You can't call a cockerel Roger!
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.
