Hi one of my cream legbars (13 weeks) has her beak open alot. First i put it down to the hot weather but the other one doesn't do it. She seems fine other than that eating/drinking. I have some flubenvet so should I worm them at this age?& does it affect them not having the growers in the interim? Thanks!

All my hens have been open beaked in the hot weather .
Does your hen do it in the morning when it is cool ?
Have you had a listen to her breathing as hens with Gapeworm often have a rattle where the parasite is nearly blocking the windpipe.

Hmm may have been over anxious  both chooks with mouths firmly shut. Will monitor but when should I first worm them?

I think it takes a while to build up a worm 'load' and worming is advised every 4-6 months.

It is probably a good idea to leave worming till they are at POL  (26 weeks ?) or just before.

a few years ago we had new hens and one about 12 weeks old was very poorly
took her to our lovely poultry vet and he wormed her at that age so I would think it is ok to treat them at that age

I have wormed chicks at that age but I use the powder to add to the growers pellets.
