Title: Plastic Sheeting
Post by: utigers on August 09, 2012, 20:10
Hi there I have got hold of some old school table frames and I am looking at getting some clear plastic sheeting to go over it to make a large cloche.  Where is the best place to get thi from?

Alternatively does anyone have a better idea for these frames?

Do I need to treat the metal?

Thanks

Go down the bedding sheds, they may have some big bags the mattresses come in.

Cheers,     Tony.

Plants arrive at garden centres wrapped in plastic sheets.

Just a thought....regular plastic is not UV resistant and will breakdown within a few years, if not sooner, so do avoid making any complex attachments so you can replace it often.

What stuff do people use when making poly tunnels? Where do they get that from?

Thanks for the replies.

Its a UV resistant/tolerant plastic. You can obtain it from any of the major tunnel suppliers, such as this one here:

http://www.firsttunnels.co.uk/polythene.asp.

others are available....

Also made by companies such as Visqueen (which we have covering ours):

I made a temporary polytunnel using a home made large scale cloche covered in plastic from a new mattress I took delivery of.  It did well - lasted two seasons before needing replacement after it started disintegrating.
